It starts in Gorica and Nova Gorica with the Race for Europe, our PAME - Paths of Memory project, which is developed through various sports events, organized in places significant for common European memory.
"Let's run together for Europe!"
With this invitation, together with UISP Goriza, Športne zveze Nova Gorica and in collaboration with the Festival èStoria, we realized the first edition of the "Race for Europe - Tek za Evropo": two routes for runners of 6 and 12 km, symbolically crossing a border that no longer exists, the former border between Italy and Slovenia.
The initiative is part of the PAME-Paths of Memory project, which aims to involve fans and young people in sports initiatives organized along some of Europe's historic borders, symbols of reconciliation of a continent troubled by conflict for centuries, with the intention of strengthening a collective awareness among Europeans. Because sport is a vocation for wellbeing and health, but it also means social inclusion and brotherhood and can therefore turn into an opportunity to remember and reflect on why we have chosen to unite and pursue the community adventure.
Today, when the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has brought war back to the heart of Europe, it is more important than ever to reaffirm the fundamental values of solidarity and to remember that the Union was born to overcome the tragedies of the twentieth century, the two world wars and totalitarianism. The start from Transalpina Square. The Gorizia-Nova Gorica Run for Europe, non-competitive and open to all, was designed to promote through the playful dimension of sport, the values of well-being and community, and also to manifest firsthand the desire to defend the European project and make the ideals of peace, democracy, respect for minorities and solidarity on which it is founded win. The event had the patronage of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the municipalities of Nova Gorica, Šempeter - Vrtojba and Gorizia, as well as CONI. The next stages of the PAME project, supported by the European Commission, are the July 23 Natalonga for Europe on the island of Ventotene and in October the "Course pour l'Europe" between Strasbourg and Kehl.
